The Leiden United Board of 2019-2020
Meet The Team
Steven van der Plas
The President overlooks the functioning of the board and acts as the spokesperson of Leiden United to external parties.
I was born in Leiden and raised not even half an hour away in Katwijk. My time at Leiden
University has widened my perspective and allowed me to discover the world that is out
there. Becoming a part of Leiden United has only reinforced this and I am more than thankful for the amazing experiences that I have had so far. In part because of my time at Leiden United, I have come to see Leiden as a second home, where most of my friends live. I hope that during my time as a board member, I can share my connection to this city, university and most importantly, this association with as many people as possible!
The Treasurer manages all monetary transactions and other finances.
I was born in Gouda and lived in Waddinxveen with my mum and dad my whole life. Now, I’ve finally made my move to Leiden, although I’m doing a master’s in Public Management in The Hague. During my bachelor’s, I’ve spent some time studying in Belfast, Northern Ireland. I’ve been a member of Leiden United for almost four years now and was part of the activities committee last year. For me, it is a place to meet likeminded people and make new friends very easily. Also, Leiden United has brought me in contact with people who I consider to be friends for life.
The Assessor External is responsible for all contact with external parties and associations.
I was born in a little town in Bosnia and Hercegovina and grew up in the south of the Netherlands. I live only a twelve-minute train ride from Leiden, in the Hague. There I am a master’s student Public Management and Leadership at Leiden University. I have always loved meeting new people, discovering other cultures and being surrounded by internationals. That is why I joined Leiden United; to try to connect different people from different cultures!
The Secretary focuses on documenting what happens during a board year and manages all the promotion.
I was born in the U.S. and lived there for the first 9 years of my life. Then, my family moved back to Germany where my parents are originally from and I spent the rest of my childhood and teenage years growing up there. Now I live in Leiden, the most beautiful city of the Netherlands (in my opinion) and am studying Psychology in English. Growing up in two different countries shaped me in the way that I always yearned to surround myself with people from different cultures and walks of life. Leiden United has given me exactly this and I love that I am constantly meeting new people who have diverse experiences and think differently from me.
The Assessor Internal is responsible for the members and creates the individual groups and buddy pairings.
I grew up in Krefeld which is the most unattractive city in Germany, but it taught me to highly appreciate beautiful, multicultural and busy places such as Leiden. In my free time I really enjoy all kinds of arts and since I live so close to Rembrandts birthplace I really hope that some creative energy will rub off on me. I study psychology but I have no idea what to do when I graduate (I know, such a cliché). For now, I just really enjoy learning about the human mind, the nice sides of Leiden student life and being the assessor internal of Leiden United.
The Assessor Activities is in charge of organizing the activities, excursions and parties in collaboration with the Activities Committee.
I was born and raised in the beautiful city of Gouda, and then moved to Leiden to study cultural anthropology. I finished my studies but decided to stay and study an extra year because I’m definitely not done with Leiden yet! After I studied abroad in the United States, I joined Leiden United, and my goal next year is to make anyone, international or Dutch, have a great time!
